Smoke was commonly used to create black pigments in the very earliest days of paint making. Burning something and collecting the carbon deposit enabled the making of a range of blacks and the process often begot the name; Lamp Black, Pitch Black, Black Smoke. Our colour is as simple as it sounds – a pale grey based on carbon black with white and our usual touch of earth pigment to soften it to the eye. However these is no burning in our process ! We use natural, plant-based ingredients and make sure we have no fossil fuel derived additives.
