Nathaniel Whittock published ‘The Decorative Painters and Glaziers Guide’ in 1827 giving the recipe of this colour as Vandyke brown, King’s yellow, Venetian red and whiting. We have followed his recipe but used black and umber instead of Vandyck, just to take the heat out of it and to make it a better wall paint, perfect for hallways. It has the lovely, soft feel of the summer drenched stucco of Tuscan facades. A colour used in period homes since Stuart times and now made modern in our low VOC, eco paint so it looks beautiful and is not costing us the earth.
Cinnamon is available in lighter shades of the original, so 60%, 40% and 20% lighter for versatility.

I think the dining room will be Clove…

Edward mixed a warm grey blue for our new Entrance Hall with his natural paints. It worked perfectly with the woven paisley curtain fabric we had chosen. Better still these paints are much healthier than modern ones and kinder to allergy sufferers, which was important for us. Goodwood has a very particular character and Edward’s palette complimented the architecture, …
