Nathaniel Whittock published ‘The Decorative Painters and Glaziers Guide’ in 1827 giving the recipe of this colour as Vandyke brown, King’s yellow, Venetian red and whiting. We have followed his recipe but used black and umber instead of Vandyck, just to take the heat out of it and to make it a better wall paint, perfect for hallways. It has the lovely, soft feel of the summer drenched stucco of Tuscan facades. A colour used in period homes since Stuart times and now made modern in our low VOC, eco paint so it looks beautiful and is not costing us the earth.
Cinnamon is available in lighter shades of the original, so 60%, 40% and 20% lighter for versatility.

I’ve just received the well packaged paint I ordered and have started painting the study in French Grey - it's the perfect colour and I’ll move on to Cinnamon in the hall and Trumpington in the cloakroom (couldn’t resist!). I think the dining room will be Clove…
