We are often asked how to choose the right blue and which hues to avoid; people are wary of them being cold and dull. Edward Bulmer’s blues are quite the opposite with warmer undertones thanks to being packed full of the finest earth & mineral pigments. Whether you go for a green blue or more grey blue we can help you find the perfect shade for your space which will come to life and flatter the colours, furnishings and art within it. In this blog we are going to look at rooms decorated in shades of blue from French to Cerullian, Navy to Turquoise, to show you that a true blue can be cosy and inviting. Blues in the bedroom Edward Bulmer Natural Paint in 'Ethereal Blue' bedroom design by Carlos Garcia Edward Bulmer Natural Paint in 'Ethereal Blue' bedroom design by Carlos Garcia This soft summer bedroom is just beautiful, with pops of soft pinks floral patterns and a frilly valance. Carlos Garcia always uses Edward Bulmer Natural Paint beautifully. ‘Ethereal Blue’ is a shade of blue that has been popular since the beginning of the 19th century, and it’s not hard to see why, the way it hovers between a green, grey and blue and can appear as any one of these tones depending on the aspect of your room. The clarity of this colour are met with it’s balancing undertones which makes it relaxing enough for a bedroom and lively enough for a living room, a great all rounder. It works beautifully with most colours, both complementary and contrasting, and not surprisingly with red accents. ‘Verdigris’ takes its inspiration from the oxidising surface of copper which creates this wonderful colour during the natural aging process. A perfect Prussian blue with wonderful earthy tones, this is literally Spring in a tin and a truly happy hue. 'Ariel Tint' in the home of designer Sarah Peake, photography by Alexander James ‘Aeriel Tint’ is a favourite of Sarah from Studio Peake who has used this wonderfully grey blue shade in her bedroom and study. With similarities to a rather English skyline (not a bad thing) this beautiful blue is anchored with yellow ochre to keep it welcoming and stop it from being cold. A blue bathroom can provide a peaceful haven for you to decompress. Sometimes left until last, we want to celebrate all of the beautiful blue bathrooms that are decorated in our natural paint. White goods in a bathroom can be quite frankly, an eye sore. Make sure you choose lighting you love, different textures and finishes on your joinery and hardware and most importantly a colour you will want to wake up to…oh and we always love a sink skirt! If you need advice on which finish to choose, emulsion or water based eggshell, we are just a phone call away and are happy to help with any questions you might have. Using soft greens in a dual aspect room Pomona is a fantastic colour if you want to use it where you have dual aspect rooms of East and South light and that’s because it carries a little bit of yellow and a little bit of blue and can balance the light as it transitions from the morning through to the midday.
