Paint has always ultimately been a backdrop to beautiful furniture, pictures and fabrics. This extends beyond the domestic space and into public spaces, in particular the importance of background colour is crucial to museum and art gallery spaces. So we are thrilled that we are now working with the Manchester Art Gallery as their official paint sponsors, it’s such a joy to see our natural colours serve as the backdrops to so much culture, history and beauty. Climate Emergency Gallery 'Tyrian' Manchester are using the Climate Gallery to explore how art and collections can help people learn from history, shape the future, scrutinise decision-making and encourage caring, collective action. The display was chosen by the MAG Climate Justice group which I made up of artists, volunteers, visitors and staff. The group are using the gallery to explore how art and collections can help people learn from history to shape the future, scrutinise decision-making and encourage change. This display focuses on climate change, revealing historic and contemporary inequalities and calling for urgent collective action. MAG often focuses exhibitions around environmental issues in terms of its content and artworks but it is also making sure that the creation and curation of their exhibitions are in line with these narratives. Tyrian Order a Sample Etruscan Brown Order a Sample Spanish White Order a Sample British Art Show 9 The British Art Show is the biggest touring exhibition of contemporary art in the UK and it is widely acknowledged as the most important recurrent exhibition of contemporary art produced in this country, unrivalled in its ambition, scope and national reach. The curators of British Art Show 9, Irene Aristizábal and Hammad Nasar, have made their artist selection after extensive research and travel across the UK. They have chosen our ‘Indigo’ on the walls in these images and our pale yellow ‘Florence’ on the plinths. The show explores how concepts such as elegance, uniformity and spectacle have evolved over the last 250 years. The exhibition highlights a range of examples from Manchester’s collections and will be composed of two main sections: Tailored Dandy and Decorated Dandy. Combining the historic with the contemporary, the provocative with the respectable, the show draws contrasts and comparisons between fashion, art and photography. From fashion to fine art, Dandy Style will showcase work from the artists Thomas Gainsborough, Thomas Lawrence, David Hockney and Peter James Field, the photographers David Bailey, Olivia Rose and Jason Evans, and the fashion designers Tommy Nutter, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Ozwald Boateng. The exhibition features extraordinary, never seen pieces from their collections, and includes significant loans from other art institutions and private lenders.
