Paint has always ultimately been a backdrop to beautiful furniture, pictures and fabrics. This extends beyond the domestic space and into public spaces, in particular the importance of background colour is crucial to museum and art gallery spaces. So we are thrilled that we are now working with the Manchester Art Gallery as their official paint sponsors, it’s such a joy to see our natural colours serve as the backdrops to so much culture, history and beauty. The Manchester Art Gallery is also committed to promoting sustainability and are working hard to reduce the environmental impacts of all of their activities. Using a natural paint is bringing them one step closer to their carbon reduction goals and we are thrilled that not only do our colours look beautiful on the walls but they are also healthy for all the visitors, the artworks and the staff. Climate Emergency Gallery 'Tyrian' Manchester are using the Climate Gallery to explore how art and collections can help people learn from history, shape the future, scrutinise decision-making and encourage caring, collective action. The display was chosen by the MAG Climate Justice group which I made up of artists, volunteers, visitors and staff. The group are using the gallery to explore how art and collections can help people learn from history to shape the future, scrutinise decision-making and encourage change. This display focuses on climate change, revealing historic and contemporary inequalities and calling for urgent collective action. MAG often focuses exhibitions around environmental issues in terms of its content and artworks but it is also making sure that the creation and curation of their exhibitions are in line with these narratives. The curators of British Art Show 9, Irene Aristizábal and Hammad Nasar, have made their artist selection after extensive research and travel across the UK. They have chosen our ‘Indigo’ on the walls in these images and our pale yellow ‘Florence’ on the plinths. 'Tingry' Photo © michaelpollardphotography BAS9 has been developed at a precarious moment in Britain’s history that has brought politics, narratives of identity and questions of agency to the centre of public consciousness. The artists presented in the exhibition respond in critical ways to this complex context; imagining more hopeful futures and exploring new modes of resistance. Their projects often blur the boundaries between art and life, and imagine alternative futures. Through their works, they propose alternative economies and ways of living together that emphasise commonality, collaboration and care. The show explores how concepts such as elegance, uniformity and spectacle have evolved over the last 250 years. The exhibition highlights a range of examples from Manchester’s collections and will be composed of two main sections: Tailored Dandy and Decorated Dandy. Combining the historic with the contemporary, the provocative with the respectable, the show draws contrasts and comparisons between fashion, art and photography. From fashion to fine art, Dandy Style will showcase work from the artists Thomas Gainsborough, Thomas Lawrence, David Hockney and Peter James Field, the photographers David Bailey, Olivia Rose and Jason Evans, and the fashion designers Tommy Nutter, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Ozwald Boateng. The exhibition features extraordinary, never seen pieces from their collections, and includes significant loans from other art institutions and private lenders. What are microplastics and how can we reduce them in mainstream paints? Microplastics, microbeads and nano particles are so tiny (measuring 0.006 to 1 millimetre, but they can be up to 5mm) that they are now everywhere! We are probably all inadvertently responsible for this as it is not mandatory to be told when they are used in a product and only a small number of their uses has been outlawed. Furthermore, plastics that are dumped in soils or water are being broken down to become microplastics.
