Sir William Chambers seems to have been a big fan of Buff colour and one can see why – it has the clarity of cut stone and is a tone you can use all over or with an off-white trim colour. I have adopted the C18th recipe that adds a little red to the yellow ochre and white. A gorgeous light hallway colour made with only 12 natural pigments and plant and mineral based raw materials, all declared on the tin. At Edward Bulmer Natural Paint we are honestly colourful!
My decorator has just finished the library in Buff with Spanish White and Whiting, as you suggested, and it is totally transformed

Please check our practical painting advice - if you are painting onto a very absorbent surface, you may need more paint, and for best results, you may need to prime your surfaces.
