Colours for a CauseFrom the top down, our company puts people and planet before profit; we feel it's essential that we give back, that we help where we can. Our founders have instilled this vision in our team and it is our aim to support ‘Colours for a Cause’ whenever we can. Our plan is to invest our time in community, both local and further afield, arts-based projects, as well as medical research and health charities. At the core of our ethos lies an unwavering commitment: prioritising the well-being of people and the planet above profit margin. This dedication serves as the guiding light for every facet of our operations, underscoring the responsibility we feel towards the world we inhabit. CharitableMuseums & Galleries We have coined ‘Colours for a Cause’ as a place to share our collective efforts towards meaningful impact through the donation of our plant-based paint. Spanning a diverse spectrum of initiatives, ranging from community-centric projects, both local and further afield, arts-based, but also medical research and health charities that breathe life into local neighbourhoods for worthy causes. Our commitment to ‘Colours for a Cause’ represents more than a partnership; it symbolises a shared commitment to the pursuit of a brighter (and colourful!), more compassionate future for all. As we take on this journey of purpose-driven action, we stand firm in our resolve to leave a note of kindness and generosity. Our natural paint business has been built from the ground up, driven by the belief that, simply by making it differently, paint need not be polluting or unsustainable. We can play our small part in leaving a world where our children and grandchildren can thrive in balance with nature. Charitable Projects It is in giving that we truly receive the greatest rewards and the profound sense of fulfilment that comes from making a meaningful difference in the lives of others and for future generations. Hackney Night Shelter volunteers painting using excess paint 'Verdigris' Hackney Night Shelter Hackney Night Shelter has worked with the local community in Hackney to provide shelter and support to homeless people for over 25 years, providing year-round emergency shelter with plans to assist them to move into longer-term accommodation. The shelter previously operated out of community spaces around Hackney (churches, halls, and schools) but as of January 2023 a new space was offered to them but the space required refurbishment and reconfiguration. It was at the end of 2022, London-based architecture studio Pilbrow and Partners reached out to us and we were really pleased to help and donate our natural paint for this project. Pilbrow and Partners along with Hackney Night Shelter felt us to be a suitable fit, aiming to create a functional space where design and sustainability are not compromised. Working within an industry where home is such a strong focus, it resonated with us to work alongside Hackney Night Shelter to provide a warm and safe sanctuary for Hackney’s homeless guests using uplifting, natural colours in communal areas for socialising, bedrooms and bathrooms. 'Dutch Orange' going onto the walls Volunteers of the brilliant Hackney Night Shelter decorating Painting of 'Verdigris' One of the safe sanctuary's for the Homeless guests A colourful transformation Run solely by volunteers and provides year-round emergency shelter to get them back on their feet and assist them in moving into longer-term accommodation. We were able to not only donate paint to help this shelter but also donate leftover paint using up old unwanted tins of various colours. The colour schemes were centered around three spaces – bedrooms to be primarily white with accentuates of deep green and datums of pale blue, so for this space, our ‘Plain White’ was used and the accents, our nursery blue colour ‘Lucca’, ‘Light Olive Green’ and ‘Fair Blue’ used. The social spaces were painted in ‘Plain White’ as well as ‘Silver White’, with accentuates of orange and yellows so here ‘Dutch Orange’, our deep red and richly pigmented ‘Sang de Boeuf’ was used as well as ‘Naples Yellow’. Finally the circulation to be primarily white with accentuates of pink, purple and green so our nursery colour ‘Jesse’, purple ‘Laylock’ and emerald, green ‘Verdigris’ decorated. The injection of accent colours has transformed the space adding lots of joy, life and soul to this shelter space. Verdigris in the communal space Blue Marine Foundation Blue Marine work tirelessly to restore our oceans health by addressing many of the issues that our marine habitats and life face such as overfishing and pollutants. Marine conservation is no mean feat, and the paint industry contributes 1 million tonnes of microplastics siphoned into the ocean every year. We were honoured to donate our rather fitting, deep sea ‘Indigo’ blue to Blue Marine as part of a project to decorate their head offices at Somerset House last year and to support all of the amazing work they do. Although our natural paint contains no microplastics, we want to be part of the solution which means securing protected areas of our ocean, developing more sustainable methods of fishing and restoring all of the marine life that has come to harm. Providing them with well-designed spaces for communities to thrive. The belief that comfort is key to recuperation, redesigning homes for cancer patients, nurseries for children and to bring joy to utilitarian spaces. Turner Pocock chose ‘Vert de Mer’ and ‘Silver White’ and painted stripes to create an inviting and fun space. The work of the refuge and all the team who volunteer and work there is so heart affirming; with paint donated by us and children’s books and fabrics from other companies, TP created a true haven. We loved working with this wonderful charity and were delighted to provide paint for this incredibly worthy cause, offering no toxic and healthy environment and the use of colour in a more emotional way to create serene and safe spaces. Collaborating with The Holburne is not just a partnership; it’s a testament to our shared passion for enriching lives through art and creativity. “When we started producing natural paints the market wasn’t that interested. That’s definitely changed. People are increasingly interested in what’s in the products they buy. It’s important that companies are transparent about their products to help people make a choice. We declare every single ingredient we use.The galleries and museums ethical and environmental stance are why working with them is as good as it gets for us. It’s not just about our colours and how good they’ll look with the art, it’s also that our ethics align. Both parties share an interest in environment and wellbeing. “ Edward Bulmer Pallant House Gallery Last year marked a pivotal chapter in our ongoing commitment to supporting cultural endeavours. In a momentous collaboration, we had the privilege of joining Pallant House Gallery in Chichester, as their official paint partner for the groundbreaking exhibition, 'Gwen John: Art and Life in London and Paris'. Director Simon Martin chose our ‘Pompadour’ and ‘Fair Blue’ as backdrop to John’s masterpieces. Both colours with its own rich history and symbolic significance, served as a silent accomplice to the nuanced palette of Gwen John’s work. From the serene streets of Paris to the bustling vibrancy of London, every stroke of colour served as a poignant testament to the intricacies of Gwen John’s artistic evolution. What’s more, our partnership with Pallant House Gallery represents a great commitment to nurturing spaces that foster new ways of engaging with modern British art. We remain committed in our dedication to supporting institutions like Pallant House Gallery for its creativity and enlightenment and how the transformative power of art can inspire meaningful change in the world. 'Pompadour' and 'Fair Blue' for Gwen John's exhibition at Pallant House Gallery The Garden Museum Nestled in the heart of the UK, The Garden Museum stands as a unique tribute to the rich history of gardening. From botanical art to culinary exploration, and literary pursuits to hands-on gardening experiences, The Garden Museum sparks curiosity and cultivates a deeper appreciation for the wonders of nature. In 2021, we proudly supplied paint colours of ‘Spanish White’, ‘Silver White’, ‘Plain White’ and ‘Olympian Green’ for the Constance Spry exhibition, curated by Edward’s dear friend, Shane Connolly. This year, we eagerly anticipate collaborating once more for ‘Gardening Bohemia: Bloomsbury Women Outdoors’. These exhibitions not only showcase the intersection of art and nature but also embody our shared commitment to preserving and celebrating our botanical heritage. 'Olympian Green' backdrop at The Garden Museum for Constance Spry exhibition Dora House: The Royal Society of Sculptors A stone's throw away from our London Showroom lies Dora House, the esteemed home of The Royal Society of Sculptors. This year, Edward curated the Summer Show, 'The Shape of Life', an immersive exploration of form and expression featuring some of the society's most talented sculptors. Our neutral colours adorned the space, serving as accents to the captivating artworks and harmonising with the historic ambiance of the building, which underwent a transformative renovation in 2023. Manchester Art Gallery Embarking on one of our ‘on the paint road’ journeys, we ventured to the esteemed Manchester Art Gallery. While beautiful paint serves as the perfect backdrop for domestic spaces, its significance extends far beyond home interiors, particularly in public spaces like museums and art galleries. 'Indigo' walls for the Dandy Style Exhibition The Manchester Art Gallery shares our commitment to sustainability and actively works to reduce its environmental footprint. By opting for natural paint, they take a step closer to their carbon reduction goals, ensuring a healthier environment for visitors, artworks, and staff alike. Our colours not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the gallery but also contribute to its overall well-being. In addition to our collaborations with museums and galleries, we remain steadfast in our support of artists. We donate leftover paints and old sample pots, providing them with the tools to bring their creative visions to life. It’s remarkable how natural paint inspires creativity; artist Joanna Layla transformed old leftovers into a stunning body of work titled ‘In the Greenroom’, demonstrating the boundless potential of sustainable materials in the realm of art. The colours are our own distinct range. We are very excited to work with Manchester Art Gallery because of the tonal dialogues that happen between wall colours and paintings. Our colours are very accommodating of artworks, particularly historic works which will undoubtedly have been made with some of the same pigments – ingredients that would be completely recognisable to historic artists.
